getrag 240 5speed

I have just got a Getrag 240 5 speed gearbox with overdrive 5th from Opel Manta. I intend to put it on my 2.3 diesel, as iknow for a fact that the opel 2.3 diesel and late 2.0 cih engines had the same 5 speeds...

I was just wondering if anybody has done this already? i know the propshaft will need modyfiying (getrag has the sliding flange type output) and longer speedo cable,
but i am looking for ideas how to adapt the gearstick ... in original position the stick would come out right under the passenger seat. I dont wanna overengineer it, but would like something smarter than a 1,5m curved stick as i'm sure the feel would suck...

any info, pictures and warnings for potential no-nos will be greatly appretiated, as i will be exploring the uncharted territory

My first thought was a smaller and lighter version of Bedford truck remote for forward control cabs with the shift lever mounted on a ball joint -

Plastic flanged bushes and steel sleeve for each of the through bolts at the ends allow movement forwards and backwards: bolts clamp the sleeves which then move in the bushes.

Earlier Borg Warner T5 remote embodies the same idea - shift lever on a ball joint with a rigid shaft linking the lever to the transmission shift.

many thanx, this is the basic idea that i needet to build on :thumb: two joints. will post it after I am done - which will probably not happen in 2018... :roll:

This is my vision. Box is R25, but somethin similar could work at 240 too?

Interesting setup you did ToniH!

I'm also doing a similar gearbox swap but I went a different route.

I didn't opt for the top layout because the gearbox is very close to the van floor, it's almost touching..

As soon as I am finished I will post up details in my blog.

OK, ToniH, I just seen your CF >> viewtopic.php?f=55&t=3940&p=15345#p15345.

You swapped out the original engine and have custom motor mounts so you now have extra space between the gearbox and the floor.
