Good morning all

I have just joined your club as you look to have a vast amount of knowledge on the Bedford slant petrol engines and was wondering if these engines are the same that went in the Vauxhall’s magnums or are there many differences.

Many thanks

Gary

Broadly -

Prior to introduction of the 18L and 23L in 1974 for CF models the high and low compression versions of 1600cc and 2000cc engines were in use across the Vauxhall range.

18H and 23H for Vauxhall models share the same bottom ends as 18L and 23L for CFs apart from pistons - flat top rather than dished. Standard heads I think are interchangeable.

SVO 8088 high performance engine for the CF has a cylinder head similar to that used for the high performance Firenza engine incorporating improved porting and larger inlet and exhaust valves. A twin exhaust downpipe is installed with exhaust system modifications to suit. The inlet manifold has enlarged ports but externally remains unchanged. Low compression pistons are installed which together with the cylinder head give a compression ratio of 8:1.

Other than that it's down to trawling part numbers.

Many thanks Phil for your quick reply. So would the timing of the ignition and valves be the same on all 2.3 engines along with oil pressures??

Cheers

Gary

For factory engines, yes.
