Hi all

3 cries for help regarding my continuing educational adventures in Audrey.

Firstly shes missing the piece that retains the gearstick, whilst i can live without it it's annoying and not ideal for accurate gear changing. Does anyone know where i can source the part or can anyone provide a picture and some measurements so i can try and make something up.

Secondly i need to replace or modify the air intake ducting which is in a horrible state. Currently it runs as 70mm duct from the intake port to just beside the oil fill where there is a metal section it then continues as ducting to the air filter which sits just behind the front grill, i assume to try and 'catch' more air. the metal section in the middle has a convoluted arrangement of rubber hose and copper plumbing pipe connecting it to the oil fill pipe. It also has another outlet which simply vents upwards. I'm assuming the heath-robinson setup is a crankcase breather. I'd like to get rid of a lot of this ducting and simplify matters. Am i right in thinking i could mount the air filter more or less directly to the intake port and run a hose from the breather to the air filter thereby actually creating a negative pressure in the crankcase getting rid of 3ft or so of ducting and probably improving air flow especially if i swap to a K&N.

Thirdly the top radiator hose in knackered, it's a fairly simple right angle piece but it appears to be different gauges at each end, where am i best to look for a replacement?

Unfortunately i don't have any pictures at the moment as the van is 20 miles away but i will go see her later or tomorrow and take some

Thanks in advance for any help

Al

Gear shift lever

The turret incorporates two plastic ball seatings (5), a steel spacer (4), lock washer (2) and a plain washer (3) assembled below the retaining nut (6).

To prevent the lock washer from vibrating a soft O-ring (1) is located between the lock washer and turret.

For a kit of bits try ABC in Leeds; contact details in Sources - general list.

Air cleaner and intake hose

Earlier setup with oil bath air cleaner attached by nut (8) to the floor panel behind the grille on the passenger side
(4.108 and 4.154 to chassis 2V608808) -

Later arrangement was just a hose from the intake manifold to a plastic air cleaner case hung off the body bracket by a short strap which replaces item (10) in the Perkins air cleaner illustration (like 1600cc and 2000cc petrol engines of the time) but with steel elbow fresh air intake and oiled mesh element optional to a paper element.

This arrangement was noisy compared to the long hose and oil bath cleaner setup... so noisy that GM reduced the engine maximum speed to comply with regulations in some territories.

Radiator hoses

Bottom with heater: 91006704 (required for sink heater even if cab heater disconnected or absent).

Try Nufox in Manchester (formerly Lee Healey) via their contact page.

For the 4.108 engine -

Centre plate: GM 7202354 (8-inch), superseded by 2697489; Borg & Beck HB2610
Pressure plate: GM 8821215; Borg & Beck HE3499, Quinton Hazell Q10027
Release bearing: GM 8827050; Borg & Beck HD3267, Quinton Hazell CCT78

Try Calder Clutch for bearing and cover (contact details in Sources - general list).

If the original clutch is 8-inch then the later 8.5-inch clutch should fit - should be the same screw and dowel hole locations for the pressure plate. (Larger clutch diameter provides greater torque to the transmission.)
