CF2 dash panel query

Hi I'm about to remove the speedo panel on my 1981 CF250, is the speedo easy to connect and reconnect ie how long is the cable when you pull the gauge outwards? Cheers Phil

There's a catch ...

On the back of the speedo is a spring clip that retains the speedo cable -

Push the clip towards the speedo body to release the cable -

When installing the dash panel it may be necessary to turn the speedo drive boss (central brass bit in the speedo head) to align with the square of the inner cable so that the cable slides easily into the drive boss.

Speedo cable can be pulled out a little (a few inches or so) through the grommet in the bulkhead to make it easier to fit the cable to the speedo.
When the dash panel is going back in the cable can be pulled back into place from under the bonnet rather than try to push it back using the dash panel.

Bulbs can be changed without removing the speedo cable if the cable can be pulled (or pushed - sometimes easier) through the grommet in the bulkhead so that the dash panel moves out further. However, it's usually easier to work on the dash panel with the cable detached from the speedo because then the panel can be rotated almost face down for access to all of the bulbs. Also, if the cable has become tangled with any of the wiring then the cable or the wiring can be re-routed once the cable has been detached from the speedo.
