charging problem

Had the gearbox out looking for knocking problem , put everything back in its place , tried to fire the van up , nothing , ignition light was out oil pressure light was on , wire was off the starter motor (white /red tracer).put that back on ,started, still no ignition light . Checked the voltage ign off 12.6v fired up checked the battery 12.4v so not charging .........headscratching smilie....where to begin

Disconnect brown+yellow wire from the alternator then ground the wire.
(If more than two wires to the alternator then the brown+yellow wire from the harness is the one to ground.)

If the warning lamp doesn't glow then check the bulb.

If the warning lamp does glow then the fault is in the alternator.

Which alternator is fitted and number of wires to it will dictate next tests.

First job was checking the bulb , prized the plastic holder out of the console gave it a coat of looking at , waggled it and on came the light......marvellous :D
