Hi, I've a cf1 250 advantura I've only been out in it a few short trips, and I've noticed when going over slightly rough ground there seems to be a rattle on the steering but no kluncking or banging, any advice would be greatly appreciated, Martin.

Common cause of steering rattle is loose front shock absorber/s, often the mounting plates loose in the lower suspension arms.

Other things to check if shock absorber attachment isn't the problem -

Wheel nuts properly tight (50 lbf ft, 68 Nm).

Front hub bearings end float (no more than 0.005 inch).

Security and condition of -
  • Upper and lower suspension arms and ball joints.
Check upper arm security and upper and lower ball joints with vehicle weight supported on lower arms to lift upper arm bump rubber from axle beam.
Check lower arm attachment to axle beam: if any bolts are loose then renew all 4 bolts and nuts (3/8-inch UNF - high tensile bolts, P type nyloc nuts).

    Track rod ends.

    Steering rack.

Steering column lower shaft rubber coupling and universal joint.

Steering column tube lower bush and upper bearing.

    Steering wheel.

Steering column tube attachment to floor panel and pedal bracket.

Front axle beam attachment to chassis.
Rare for axle beam mounting plate/s to tear off at welds but worth checking if nothing else loose or worn.
