Hi all, I've just come across a zf 5 speed box which I will be converting ie mainshaft and splines etc, the query I have is the box will be fitted to a 250 advantura camper and I'm running on 15" wheels at the rear and believe the axle is 8/37 so would the old girl work well in 5th 0.81.
Thanks
Martin

Depend how heavy the van is; if it's much more than 2000kg then it may struggle to hold 50+mph on the level in overdrive 5th with 14-inch wheels.

Hi thanks for your reply Phil, I don't know the actual weight as yet, but I've certainly lightened it ie taken out shower, fresh water tank, waste water tank, fridge etc so in your opinion would it be worth doing the conversion or leave my zf 4 speed in place, I have had the cylinder head reworked valve seats, skimmed, ports polished, flywheel balanced, 490 exhaust manifold so should flow better

I'd take the van to a weighbridge before going much further ...
